I recently read an article that two women I greatly admire shared. Upon reading, I was immediately convicted and regretful. Dear Women’s Ministry, Stop Telling Me I’m Beautiful First of all, I value how the author articulated her opinion with such eloquence and awareness of the spiritual thermometer of her sisters in Christ. As a leader and teacher, this letter… Read More ->

Most moms would say they love their kids, but how many moms actually love being a mom? You have heard it said, “Love is a Choice!” But how many of us have connected the dots that we can choose to love every aspect of our lives, just as we can choose to love other people? I see people sharing… Easemax Womens Trendy Bows Thick Sole Slip On Open Toe Platform Flat Slide Sandals White 4PhnAVtnOj

We need to raise our boys better than this. I’ve absolutely had it! I work REALLY hard at not having a critical spirit, but we need to be REALISTS and have an HONEST CONVERSATION about the mass majority of parenting, or lack thereof, going on today. We Mothers and Fathers have an opportunity to change the future and to raise… Read More ->

/ Managing Risk with Procurement, Featuring Linda Tuck Chapman

With the increasing complexity of global supply chains, one thing is on the mind of every procurement organization: third party risk. What types of risk? How can we mitigate it? Many firms implement internal and external controls for risk, but few truly strategize third party risk management in their procurement operations.

We spoke with Linda Tuck Chapman , president of Vans Unisex Classic SlipOn Kenya Sneakers Black VNXD2VlM1
Performance Solutions and a third party risk management subject matter expert. Author of Linda believes the procurement function is vital in managing organizational risk. She advocates for transparency and consistency in the approach.

Procurement was traditionally a cost reduction function. Today, Linda believes procurement has the opportunity to do more strategic work and add value to the organization. “Companies that embrace third party risk management as an exercise in regulatory or legal compliance miss the point,” she said. “Third party risk management, done well, drives better outcomes for the business and the company. With today’s threat landscape changing so quickly, procurement has an opportunity to become a vital part of the company’s risk management team.” Linda believes that the mantra for procurement success should be to 1) drive the best value for money, 2) protect the organization from harm, and 3) improve the customer experience.

“Risk management isn’t a separate or discrete activity from procurement processes,” Linda stated. “Third party risk management is a team sport. We must rely on specific expertise provided by risk domain leaders in order to understand certain risks, to ask the right questions, and implement the right controls.” For organizations that are just beginning to explore risk management, Linda suggests careful analysis and collaboration with the business and risk experts from other functions, such as information security or fraud.

Innovation offers new opportunities, but often carries new risks. “Spend more time on the things you don’t understand, and identify risk drivers and controls that positively impact the community your organization serves.”

Managing Risk with Procurement, Featuring Linda Tuck Chapman

“As a CPO, I always felt something was missing from our processes,” she said. “For example, once a contract was signed, we no longer had any visibility. The organization does all this hard work getting the best possible contract, with tight controls, and optimal service levels in place, and then you hand it over to the business. You didn’t see the [risks] and outcomes after that.”

Topological insulators are a new state of quantum matter with a bulk gap and odd number of relativistic Dirac fermions on the surface. The bulk of such materials is insulating but the surface can conduct electric current with well-defined spin texture. In addition, the relativistic energy-momentum relationship of electrons in these materials provides a great opportunity to study the physics of relativity in a condensed matter system with the velocity of massless particles about 200 times slower than the light speed in vacuum.

Surface conduction of topological insulators. (A)The spin of electrons on the surface is correlated with their direction of motion.(B)The lattice structure of BiTeand the predicted relativistic "Dirac cone" like electronic structure formed by the surface electrons.(C)The electronic structure measured by angle-resolved photoemission that confirmed the theoretical prediction and the topological nature of BiTe.

Unlike other materials where the fragile surface states can be easily altered by details in the surface geometry and chemistry, topological insulators are predicted to have unusually robust surface states due to the protection of time-reversal symmetry. These unique states are protected against all time-reversal-invariant perturbations, such as scattering by non-magnetic impurities, crystalline defects, and distortion of the surface itself, and can lead to striking quantum phenomena such as quantum spin Hall effect, an image magnetic monopole induced by an electric charge, and Majorana fermions (whose anti-particle is itself) induced by proximity effect from a superconductor.

Extracting the electronic and structural properties of topological insulators is essential for both the understanding of the underlying physics and potential applications. As a direct method to study the electron band structures of solids, ARPES can yield rich information of the electronic bands of topological insulators, as demonstrated in our results on the realization of the large gap single Dirac cone topological insulator, Bi 2 Te 3 .

Crystal and electronic structures of BiTe. (A)Tetradymite-type crystal structure of BiTe. (B) Calculated bulk conduction band (BCB) and bulk valence band (BVB) dispersions along high symmetry directions of the surface Brillouin zone (BZ) (see inset), with the chemical potential rigidly shifted to match the experimental result. (C) The k dependence of the calculated bulk Fermi surface (FS) projection on the surface BZ.(D)ARPES measurements of band dispersions along K-Γ-K and M-Γ-M (bottom) directions. (E) Measured wide range FS map covering three BZs, where the red hexagons represent the surface BZ.(F)Photon energy dependent FS maps. The shape of the inner FS changes dramatically with photon energies, indicating a strong k dependence due to its bulk nature as predicted in panel (C), while the non-varying shape of the outer hexagram FS confirms its surface state origin.

The Rare Correct Use of the Word "Hopefully"

Written by Womens Sexy Ankle Strap Platform Shoes Super High Stiletto Heel Sandals For Nightclub Red LD79SCDM4o

In reading Tom Perrotta's novel , I came across this sentence, in which a woman offers a positive comment about after a woman in her book club attacks it:

"'There's a lot of good descriptive writing,' she said hopefully."

"Hopefully" is one of those words that's almost never used correctly. Most of the time it's employed to mean "It is to be hoped," as in "Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow." But it's an adverb. It should modify a verb. She sighed hopefully. He looked hopefully into the distance.

Bill Bryson points out in that "those writers who scrupulously avoid hopefully do not hesitate to use at least a dozen other words - 'apparently', 'presumably', 'happily', 'sadly', 'mercifully', 'thankfully' and many others - in precisely the same way." But he goes on to deplore the word's misuse for its ambiguity and lameness.

Dictionary.com gives "it is to be hoped" as the second definition. To borrow a rebuttal from George Carlin on a similar point - there's a reason it's second:

Language evolves, and I have no problem with that. Bryson wrote the book specifically about how the English language evolved in the United States, and it's a vivid, informative and entertaining read that helps boost appreciation for how valuable it is that words change in meaning and function over time and in different circumstances. With English having no regulatory body, like French or Spanish, these changes happen organically, and against the indignant but ultimately faint and ineffectual protests of purists and pedants.

A few years ago a friend used the word "whence" in an email, without prefacing it with "from" and defended that usage before I had a chance to point out the error. "Whence," it turns out, means "from." "From whence" is Latasa Womens Cute Bow Chunky Midheel Pumps Shoes Pink 4UI4T
. Since finding that out I've read "whence" on its own in at least a dozen books, many of them novels. It must have been there all the years I thought the expression "from whence" was correct. Why hadn't I noticed it? (Maybe it was internally altered by the same auto-correct function the brain has that can let your eyes pass over a simple error in your own writing dozens of times without picking it up)(have you spotted one in this article yet?) And how correct is it when it's only used correctly by the tiniest minority - and pretty much only when written, not spoken?

"Hopefully" is used so frequently and almost universally in its newer and technically incorrect meaning that to read it or hear it used correctly has become worth noting. I still strive to use it properly, even though no one notices or cares. Same with "whence." And I do commonly take grammatical liberties by using fragments as full sentences. For effect. And rhythm. Learned that from JP Donleavy . But I'll be damned if I stop being scrupulous enough to differentiate "there," "their" and "they're," or start pluralizing with an apostrophe s. And I'll shoot myself in the head before I start trying to get across that I'm kidding by ending a sentence with an emoticon.

Maybe there are a couple of language buffs out there who'll appreciate it, I conclude hopefully.
